12th Mediterranean Cooking Event – Albania

We will stay with the letter “A”. Albania is a bit of a mistery for me as I could not find too much info about it. Neither have I ever visted it. Tavë dheu, Petë and Lakër…What are these dishes and wor are they prepared?
What I did find out is, that the Albanians love Meze. They have some local Beer “Birra Korça” with it or even local wine or Raki. Lunch is the main meal in Albania. I am looking forward to read what you will find out!

Here comes the roundup for the 10th Mediterranean cooking event. The topic was Slovenia, which was a difficult theme. Knowing that I appreciate even more the recipes that were handed in. Good for the participants that there is only little competition this time.

Here are the contestants:

	The first one to hand in a recipe was seelensturm. The recipe is a delicious Slovenian sweet called blejska kremšnita (Bled Cream Cake). It is a multy layer cake with puff pastry. It tastes amazing and is certainly woth a closer look!
	The second contestant is the torview blog. all the way form Canada we get a delicious and simple beef and barley soup.

11th Mediterranean Cooking Event – Egypt

We are back to the Arabic world and the coast of north Africa.Egypt is our destination, a country with a very long history of cooking. Recipes were found here dating back 5000 years. Amongst then the oldest recipe for Mayonnaise which consists of olive oil and egg yolk. Also brewing beer has a very long tradition here.

Dates, figs, grapes, quince but aslo cucumber is used a lot in the Egyptian cuisine. You can also find a lot of lamb. I am curious what you will find!

Again an interesting and creative exchange of recipes around the country of Tunisia. Check out the round up and please also participate the voting to determine the favorite recipe. I want to thank the contestants for the cooking they did!

	The first two recipes come from the Torview blog in Toronto. The first dish is a very versatile classic. A couscous with vegetables featuring mushrooms and carrots.
	The second dish is a a meatball curry that is wonderfully seasoned with ginger and garlic.
	The next one to post a recipe was the Oh taste n see blog. Tunisian Brunch or Chakchouka is a lovely vegetable dish with peppers and tomato and an egg on top.
	Of course our old friend Lyan is also participating. She also hast posted two recipes. The first one is is a carrot salad for a hot summer day.
	The second dish of Lyan translates with full brick. It is a filo pastry dish that has a delicious filling of tuna and parsley. Unfortunately both recipes do not have a photo.
	From the seelensturm blog we have a very creative and inventive recipe. Tunisian date cup cakes look delicious and taste even more so.
	Vanessa form the Sweet Artichoke blog is participating the first time. she has prepared a Mechouia, a dish of roasted vegetables.
	Tunisian chickpea Soup or Lablabi is another tasty Tunisian dish. It is brought to us in the last minute by Sangi's Food World.

10th Mediterranean Cooking Event – Slovenia

Slovenia is the smallest country participatin this series of events. Its population is roughly 2 million an its size is 20.000 squar kilometers. The Slovenian food is historically influenced by Austrian cuisine, but as well by the Italian and Hungarian way of cooking. Lots of meat, ham, speck and eggs are eaten but also mushrooms and honey are used extensively.

It will be a challenge to find recipes as many of the sources are in slavic language. I wish you all the best!

Dear contestants, thank you once more for participating the event. I have summed everything up and created a little overview over the recipes you have handed in. I think we have a great collection of dishes there.

	The first to participate was Ivy. She is from Cyprus and cooked us a lovely dish with called Louvu me Lahana
	Lyan is participating with a sellection of dishes. The first one is a refreshing Tzatziki
	This is Lyan's second dish. It is Calamar with lemon and garlic butter . A great way of preparing calamar!
	This is not the classic cinnamon role you would expect. These are Cinnamon and cardamon rolls
	This is my personal favourite of Lyan's dishes as I am a chickepea fan. Her chickpea salad has onion, parsley, coriander and feta cheese.
	Ivy presensts the perfect desert. Her pudding like cream is flavoured with rose water and orange blossom water. It is called Milk Mahalebi with strawberries.
	This Moussakas is another great dish by Lyan!
	More that burnt toast hsa grilled some Halloumi cheese for us. The dish is a Char grilled halloumi cheese with tomato and olive dressing.
	A pita sandwich with Tzatziki is presented by the Torview blog
	Akheela from the Torview Blog (Toronto) is presenting a second dish. This time it is Stuffed Tomatos and bell peppers with potatoes.
	This grilled pork sandwich with halloumi cheese is brought to us by Peter from the Kalofagas Blog who is participating the first time.
	As so often Lyan has handed in the most recipes. These are her last two entries. Roasted pepper dip.
	Do not forget to use the 'translate' option on her website as the recipes are in dutch! Her are her marvelous Sesame crackers with Thyme.

9th mediterranean cooking event – Tunisia

We have landed at the east end of the Maghreb – Tunisia. The country with its 10 Million inhabitants is not very big, but rich in history. The Berber, the Phoenician and the Romans have settled here already and now we do. Tunisia is an important producer of olive oil, but also dates and wine are produced here. As usual I am curious what you will come up with, what recipes you will present and share with us.
